I wrote the lyrics to this one at the time when the Brexit vote had recently happened, which wasn't long after the Orlando shooting either. A sad by-product of the result of the UK to leave the European Union was that it gave racist and xenophobic individuals a weird sense of confidence and a feeling of entitlement, like they now had the right to be openly hateful towards people living here from other countries. Many people who voted to 'Leave' did not do so because they were racist or xenophobic but for those that were, their words, posts and actions made the UK a less safe place to be if you like you were from another country.

It feels like we are always being divided against one another. Stay or Leave Europe, the divisive flags separating the same pieces of land on our planet, the gap between the rich and the poor, right wing and left wing, how we're expected to act if we're a man or a woman or the colour of our skin. Once there's a clear separation, this can all be used to fuel hate. It is happening now in the UK with some of our national Newspapers eg. Daily Mail, Daily Express, The Sun. When you put their collective headlines together over the last year and you see the rhetoric of hate that they have been pushing, it's hardly surprising we have someone such as Thomas Mair whose probably ends up radicalised as a result of this.

We're all human beings at the end of the day, our differences should be used as ways to learn from each other, not to be afraid of and to hide away from.
